Machan FC today announced that it is considering its participation in the Liga A1 Semi Pro Malaysia, with the Sibu based club considering withdrawing from the league.
According to a brief statement by the club on its official social media site, the decision to consider its participation in the league was due to the soaring price of flights in recent weeks.
The club continued to state that it is currently in discusssions with the Amateur Football Club (AFL) to seek ways it can save on travelling cost.
The club stated that it is a self sustaining club, but the unexpected increase in air fares is making it difficult for the club to continue their league journey.
Some of the options considered by the club include playing all away matches at once in Kuala Lumpur, a move which will save the club air fare cost.
“The increase of domestic flight prices is forcing the management of Machan FC to consider pulling out of the Liga A1 Semi Pro Malaysia” Machan said in their brief statement.
“As you all know, Machan FC is self sustaining and the increase in domestic air fares is making it difficult for the club to continue their remaining matches in the Liga A1 Semi Pro Malaysia.
Machan FChas not finalized its decision to pull out of the league, and the management is in talks with AFL to reschedule all remaining away football matches to be played once in Kuala Lumpur to save on flight cost” the club said in their statement.
Machan FC’s predicament is not something new to football clubs and teams from Sarawak with expensive air fare issues a norm for most Sarawak based teams in the past.
