Not much is known of Sabah-born Putera Nadher Amarhan Maderner.
Perhaps even some of the Crocs, who he signed for during the M-League April transfer window, may not know who he is. But they have seen him, cheered him and supported him.
Better known as Junior Eldstal, the Swedish-Malaysian has been in the limelight of late.
First, he was called-up to join the National U-23 squad for the World University Games in Kazan last week, but was not allowed to be registered on a technicality.
But what came next surprised everyone – a national call-up by Datuk K. Rajagobal.
“I am delighted to be here. To start off, I am nervous but I know I will get accustomed to the set-up, players and coaching staff. They have been accommodating,” said Eldstal.
“I knew it was a matter of time before I came back to Malaysia, a place my mom is from and where I was born. I am proud to be a Malaysian and representing my country is an honour.
“I want to prove there are many half Malaysians out-there who can play football. I want to show the world that Malaysia can play football and are on the rise,” he added.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder returned to Malaysia in April after spending several years at Hartpury College’s Junior Football Academy in England.
Eldstal joined the national team for a month-long training camp. Malaysia do not have any competitive matches before the 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers resume in October.
Eldstal could earn his debut against Thailand Premier League side Chonburi FC on July 16 if he does enough to convince Rajagobal. Malaysia also play Chelsea on July 21.
Malaysia will then have a stint in Japan before playing Barcelona on Aug 10.
“Who wouldn’t want to play against Chelsea or Barcelona?” asked Eldstal when asked of his excitement.
“It is never easy coming into a team where you are new. It is different, but should be okay after a week or so in training.”
