adidas recently announced the launch of the highly anticipated Superstar 80s Pioneers Pack, featuring collaborations with creative minds, skater Mark Gonzales and designer NIGO.
Going against the grain and blasting a new path forward is the Mark Gonzales way. He is an innovator and an iconoclast, and it is this pioneering spirit that adidas Originals pays homage to with their latest collaboration with the skater/creative – The Superstar 80s by Gonz.
For ‘The Gonz’, the journey truly became the destination as he appropriated the urban landscape to express a new form of individuality and artistry on four wheels.
In doing so, he redefined the ambitions of an entire generation of skateboarders for years to come. Gonzales is equally known as a free-form thinker and prolific artist, defying pigeonholes and mainstream classification.
His body of work ranges from poetry books to sculptures and paintings which have been warmly received all over the world. It is this hunger to create that inspired the Superstar 80s by Gonz. The all-white leather upper becomes a blank page for the artist.
Gonz invites the wearer to leave their mark on the Superstar 80s or for those who crave simplicity; the clean and classic design is accented with some subtle Gonz creative touches. Debossed hand lettering on the tongue and a signature character on the heel tab are a subtle nod to those who know, while the name that says it all – ‘GONZALES’ – sits defiantly on the lateral.
Aside from Gonzales, designer/creative NIGO has proved time and time again that he is a master of the craft, and adidas has decided to also feature him under the series.
An undisputed game-changer within style culture, NIGO’s ability to connect the dots between tradition and the future, East and West, and pop culture and high art has become his calling card and is highlighted in his latest collaboration with adidas Originals – the Superstar 80s by NIGO.
The Superstar 80s Pioneers Pack is now available (RM380) at adidas Originals Stores in KLCC, Pavilion, Sunway Pyramid and Berjaya Times Square Kuala Lumpur.
